days unwritten for the “miscarried”
You knit me together in my mothers womb,
Every day was written when there were none of them
-book of the psalms
What of the babies, the little tinies? The almond shaped beginnings whom our wombs, for whatever reason, didn’t hold long enough for us to bring safely into the world? Did He not write days for them?
He didn’t. Not as we measure them, anyway. But if to live is Christ and to die is gain as the apostle Paul said, can you imagine your little person feels cheated out of a short life on earth? On this hard, cursed earth?
She sits at the banquet table, she lives with God. She worships at His feet. Visit her there! Join her celebration! She is in the ever after, waiting for the culmination of all that God is redeeming, for all that the forces of heaven and the saints are fighting. Join her in the fight! Do you think she’s resting in some apathetic peace? Indifferent to our long and weary epic?
While these earthly arms will always ache to do the hard, physical, and heart-heavy work of mothering a son or daughter, REMEMBER, in Christ, we have all things. What seems lost…isn’t. What has died, lives; and what we long for has been given!
But days? Has he written days for the little-tinies? Not as we measure them. But query me this: are the saints done serving the Lord when their bodies have passed? Does their purpose end at throne of God? Know you so little of our human destiny? But let me tell you…there’s a garden, a garden!!! where we walk with God; and city, not filled with filth and deceit but a city where we plan together as brothers and preside with Christ over a new heaven and a new earth.
But this “now and not yet” we live in here, this separation, this waiting? Let Christ comfort you, heal you and enable you! Let him wash you with His word and fill you with His Spirit and show you, however dimly as in an old mirror, what your child sees face to face…in clarity! Let’s try not to begrudge them their eternity too much. It’s not that they should be here with us; it’s that we belong there with them…and we are in our way, aren’t we?

Psalm 139:13-17
For you created my inmost being;
you knit me together in my mother’s womb.
14
I praise you because I am fearfully and wonderfully made;
your works are wonderful,
I know that full well.
15
My frame was not hidden from you
when I was made in the secret place,
when I was woven together in the depths of the earth.
16
Your eyes saw my unformed body;
all the days ordained for me were written in your book
before one of them came to be.
17
How precious to me are your thoughts,[a] God!
Philippians 1:21
21 For to me, to live is Christ and to die is gain. 22 If I am to go on living in the body, this will mean fruitful labor for me. Yet what shall I choose? I do not know! 23 I am torn between the two: I desire to depart and be with Christ, which is better by far; 24 but it is more necessary for you that I remain in the body.
Colossians 3:3
1Therefore, since you have been raised with Christ, strive for the things above, where Christ is seated at the right hand of God. 2Set your minds on things above, not on earthly things.3For you died, and your life is now hidden with Christ in God. 4When Christ, who is youra life, appears, then you also will appear with Him in glory.
Hebrews 12:1-2
1 Corinthians 15:42-44
So also is the resurrection of the dead. It is sown [a]a perishable body, it is raised [b]an imperishable body; 43 it is sown in dishonor, it is raised in glory; it is sown in weakness, it is raised in power; 44 it is sown a natural body, it is raised a spiritual body. If there is a natural body, there is also a spiritual body.
1 Corinthians 13:12
Hebrews 2:8-9
For in subjecting all things to him, He left nothing that is not subject to him. But now we do not yet see all things subjected to him. 9 But we do see Him who was made [j]for a little while lower than the angels, namely, Jesus, because of the suffering of death crowned with glory and honor, so that by the grace of God He might taste death for everyone.
Ephesians 5:26
25 Husbands, love your wives, just as Christ also loved the church and gave Himself up for her, 26 so that He might sanctify her, having cleansed her by the washing of water with the word, 27 that He might present to Himself the church [q]in all her glory, having no spot or wrinkle or any such thing; but that she would be holy and blameless.
Ephesians 5:18
8 And do not get drunk with wine, [l]for that is dissipation, but be filled with the Spirit, 19 speaking to [m]one another in psalms and hymns and spiritual songs, singing and making melody with your heart to the Lord;
John 14:16
1 Corinthians 1:3-4
3 Blessed be the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, the Father of mercies and God of all comfort, 4 who comforts us in all our affliction so that we will be able to comfort those who are in [b]any affliction with the comfort with which we ourselves are comforted by God.
Thank you for your thoughtful comments! It is great to know this message I pass, as from one neighbor to another through the backyard fence, has arrived!
I am greatly encouraged by these scriptures and what you shared, Leah. Thank you for so beautifully putting words to something so indescribable. I love you and thank God for you.
Your are so special. God has blessed you and will continuously do so.
Thank you Leah. That is beautiful…I have a little one up there. I have always been convinced it is a girl. I think about “her” often. Mom and Dad will keep her for me until I get there…I am thinking about naming her, but what if I am wrong and it is a boy? I will pick a name that could be either or. lol. I love you.
So glad you love the scriptures too. Gods word is so incredible awesome!! I drive a truck and get to spend 80-90% of the day in the word. So thankful.
